Magnetic properties of the surface sediments in the Yellow River Estuary and Laizhou Bay, Bohai Sea, China: Implications for monitoring heavy metals

چکیده

Abstract The Yellow River Estuary (YRE) and adjacent Laizhou Bay (LB) encounter eco-environmental risks caused by heavy metals (HMs) pollution. Here magnetic measurements were performed on 239 surface sediment samples from the YRE LB to establish a rapid effective method for detecting HMs. Magnetite, maghemite, hematite coexist in sediments. distributions of minerals are dominated sources (Yellow northern western LB, rivers southern eastern coastal LB), anticlockwise water current. Compared background values, Cd content is enriched all samples, while Co, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb contents lower most samples. low pollution load indexes (PLI) HMs (

Diversity of Cultivable Protease-Producing Bacteria in Laizhou Bay Sediments, Bohai Sea, China

Protease-producing bacteria are widespread in ocean sediments and play important roles in degrading sedimentary nitrogenous organic materials. However, the diversity of the bacteria and the proteases involved in such processes remain largely unknown especially for communities in enclosed sea bays. Here, we investigated the diversity of the extracellular protease-producing bacteria and their pro...

Heavy Metals Pollution and Pb Isotopic Signatures in Surface Sediments Collected from Bohai Bay, North China

To investigate the characteristics and potential sources of heavy metals pollution, surface sediments collected from Bohai Bay, North China, were analyzed for the selected metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn). The Geoaccumulation Index was used to assess the level of heavy metal pollution. Pb isotopic compositions in sediments were also measured to effectively identify the potential Pb sources. ...

Distribution of heavy metals in sediments of the Pearl River Estuary, southern China: implications for sources and historical changes.

The distribution of heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cd and As) in sediments of the Pearl River Estuary was investigated. The spatial distribution of heavy metals displayed a decreasing pattern from the turbidity maxima to both upstream and downstream of the estuary, which suggested that suspended sediments played an important role in the trace metal distribution in the Pearl River Estuary. In addition, m...

Distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in sediments from Yellow River Estuary and Yangtze River Estuary, China.

Surface sediment samples collected from twenty-one sites of Yellow River Estuary and Yangtze River Estuary were determined for sixteen priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by isotope dilution GC-MS method. The total PAH contents varied from 10.8 to 252 ng/g in Yellow River Estuary sediment, and from 84.6 to 620 ng/g in Yangtze River Estuary sediment. The mean total PAH content of Ya...

Distribution and contamination of heavy metals in surface sediments of the South Yellow Sea.

The distributions, annual sedimentation and atmospheric deposition flux of heavy metals have been studied in sediments of the South Yellow Sea (SYS), in order to evaluate their levels and pollution status. The higher concentrations of heavy metals were generally found in the central part of the SYS, which may be associated with the organic matters due to their high affinity to the metals. Accor...
